John Dils' parents were Francis Dils (1760/70 NJ - May 23, 1837 Montgomery Co. OH)& Margaret probably Van Ausdallen] Dils (c1769 PA - 1830-35). Francis m. widow Barbara Smith, June 1835 Montgomery Co. OH. Her lawsuit v. his estate helps identify his family with court documents.

CORNELIUS Dils, m. Jane Walker, and predeceased Francis in 1837, leaving 10 ch.;
JANE Dils who m. (1)Isaac Richardson, (2) John Aker;
PETER Dilts who m. Mary Rentfro, had 7 ch., was a pioneer in Fort Amanda, Allen Co. OH, 1817 - 1823;
ELIZABETH Dils who m. Stephen Taylor, moved to Tippecanoe Co. IN, had 4 ch.;
RICHARD Dilts who m. Mary Gustin, had 5 ch., settled Madison Co. IN, & d. bef. 1860;

There is no proof known of the identity of Francis Dils' parents. Many Dils/Dilts folks moved to early OH, and west. There is no known connection between Francis Dils and the Peter Dilts (c1769 NJ - 1848 Muskingum Co. OH) who moved w/wife Elizabeth to the Muskingum/Morrow Co. OH area about 1812. They had 8 ch., according to a bio sketch of their youngest, Peter Dilts b. 1814 OH.
