Howdy,

Where to start... My greatgreatgrandmother was Clarinda Diltz, b.1 Apr 1850 in Middle Woodbury, Bedford Co., Pa. Her father was George Diltz, b. circa 1810. Mother was Elizabeth Alloway, b. circa 1811 in Pa.

William Diltz (wife Hanna) is the older brother of George, listed as age 61 in 1850 Bedford Co. Pa. census.

In about 1854 they left Pa. and settled in Cedar Co. Iowa. Listed in the 1860 census are three Diltz: George 50, William 61, Peter 52. In PA they were listed as blacksmiths and wagon builders. Iowa as farmers.

The brother of Clarinda, Daniel Alloway Diltz, ended up in Wyoming. His decendants live in Washington state.

The book, "Early Germans to New Jersey" lists a whole bunch of the generations decended from Daniel and Harmon Diltz. There are also listed Hoffmans, noteably Philip Diltz marries Mary Hoffman.. his half-sister. Philips mother is Anna Mary Dilts, widow of _____ Dilts, who married William Hoffman of Amwell Twp.

This family is the most frustrating I have done so far! I now live in Pulaski Co., Indiana and there are Dilts' living here who come from Ohio. These Diltz/s moved around in family groups! There were others listed in Bedford County who didn't show up in Iowa.

I also have a will dated 1805 for the (I think) grandfather of George Diltz listing some of the family. I'll have to dig it up.

Clarinda Diltz was married to Elias Garvin, grandson of Henry Garvin (see DAR Patriot index). They lived in Thayer, Chester Co., Nebraska. She died in 1924. Her daughter, Grace Mae Garvin, was born in 1879 in Montgomery Co, Iowa. She died in 1961. Her daughter was Alice Mae Lasby, b. 1899 Chester, Neb. She died in 1988 in Los Angeles where she lived with my mother.
