The Di Marco Family Name (De Marco)is not as common as most Italian Names. Although most of us are Scillians, the Di Marco name is found through out Italy. It seems that the mojority of us in Louisiana are from or near Palermo. My grandfather Gioviani and His wife Vita Dioguardi came to Lousiana in the year 1903 from Villafrati, Palermo area. Many Scillians in Louisiana did not come through Ellis Island, as they were indentured(had to pay for their passage to America) to plantations around New Orleans, this was about the time many of the black plantation workers moved up to the Chicago area and plantation labor was badly needed(1900's) thus, many settled in the river parishes(counties) between New Orleans and Baton Rouge,La.Donaldsonville,Tangipoha areas. I found so much information at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They have almost all the records copyed from the churches in Italy and Scilly. There are many De Marco from our small town of Villafrati, and we are related to almost of them.My grandfather had several brother that moved out of Louisiana and we have lost touch. If any of you are related to the Locascio, Dioguardi, and are from or near this small town we could be related and I have much information to share. Open for any of you that maybe interested.Anthony
