Hello,
I was searching for more information about the crash of Major William F. Dimas on google and came across your post on this forum.I located an article on NJpinebarrens.com dated 11/21/07 that goes into some detail about the crash and subsequent bureaucratic exchanges between the Air Force and state forestry service. Please take a look at this article:

You may be interested in why I was searching for this information.I grew up in Southern New Jersey and vacation there every summer. One of my favorite places to visit is the Pine Barrens. My girlfriend and I are avid canoers and explorers of the Pine Barrens.I had heard the story of the crash at Bear Swamp Hill some time ago and have been interested ever since. This past summer (July 09) my girlfriend and I trekked into the Pine Barrens near the crash site to locate the landing gear from Major Dimas's plane. The landing gear mentioned in the article (see photo in the article) is still in the same place that it landed and looks much the same way it did in 1976.The crash along with the landing gear has become part of the rich tapestry of stories and history of the Jersey Pine Barrens.I hope this information was helpful and please fell free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Vincent Rose
