Lula Dingess married (1)in 1909, John Wilson Hale, s/o Jefferson Davis Hale, & wife, Sarah "Sally" Conley. Lula, m.2 John Vernon Lee, son of James Lee. Both of Lula's husbands apparently used their middle names as their "common" given name.(no more info. on the Lee fam.) The 1900 Logan Co.WV.census shows the Dingess family in Chapmanville west dist. @ visitation #174. Lula,b.March 1890, d/o Albert Gallatin Dingess, b.Jan.1867, and his wife, Mary Spencer, b.Jan. 1873, the dau.of Beverly Spencer, accd.to 1900 census, born: Oct.1847 and his wife, Valeria "Valery" Hicks, b.March 1851.
Bev.Spencer was a Confederate Veteran of The Logan Co. Wildcats, 36 Va.Infantry. Other census records vary on Bev's birth year. Bev.was the son of: Ogden Spencer,b.abt.1802 in N.Carolina; and his wife: Mariah Jones, b.abt.1824 according to the 1870 Logan Co.census. {I had found Albert's middle name in other records} Albert's dad is near @ vis.# 170. My records + federal census records, give the following on Albert's father: James Ivan Dingess, b.Oct.1840; d.1922 Albert's mother, Martha Jane Smith, b.Feb.1844/or/'45; & died 1926, the dau.of William "Crawley" Smith & wife, Mary Ann Butcher. James Ivan Dingess, s/o Guy Dingess & wife, Rhoda Lois Toney. In the 1850 Logan Co.WV.census, Guy b.ca.1810 & Rhoda Lois, born abt. 1818, are shown with 6 kids and Guy is listed as a Merchant. Guy is the s/o Peter Dingess,jr.,b.Dec.16,1776 & wf.,Sarah "Sally" Farley, b.abt.1785. Rhoda Lois is the d/o William Toney,b.1787 & wf., Mary "Polly" Caperton, b.Jan.12,1799 {William & Polly married in Giles Co.VA. on Apr.02, 1815.} Peter, Jr. is s/o Peter Dingess Sr.(an American Rev.War.Vet.),b.abt 1740 in Germany, & died, 1809 in Va., he the son of Michael Dingess & Gertrude who are purported to have died aboard ship crossing the Atlantic. Peter Dingess Sr.'s wife was Mary Smith, d/o Thomas Smith & Barbara Anderson...(from relic, Dingess fam. Bible, located in Texas)
Sarah "Sally" Farley (wf.of Peter Dingess, jr.) is dau. of Capt. Henry Farley, (vet.of Rev.War)b.abt.1756,Va. and his wf. Sarah "Sally" Chitwood, no info. on Chitwood.
Capt. Henry's father, also a Rev.war Vet, was Thomas Farley,b.1725 & d.1796. Capt. Henry's mother, Judith Clay, b.1737 & d.1804 is dau.of: Wm.Clay (1709-1774) & wf.,Martha Ann Lewis,b.1710. Wm.Clay, s/o Henry Clay(1672-1760) & wf. Mary Mitchell. Martha Ann, d/o John Lewis, Jr.b.Nov.30, 1669 & died: Nov.14, 1725 and his wf., Elizabeth Warner, b.Nov.24, 1672 & died, Feb.05, 1720.
*U.S. Senator Henry Clay of Ky. (1777-1852), one of the most beloved Senators in US History, is said to have descended from this same Clay family which is part of your ancestry. I hope this information helps!
