Dinglis in Malta and Cornwall

You may by now have found this out, but there was an early line of Dingle(y)s of Dingley, Northamptonshire in UK who go back to Edwin, 1030-1066 (did he die at the Battle of Hastings?). By 1296 the family headed by Hugh de Dingley held one manor and were involved with the Knights Hospitallers. In 1338 John Dingley had gone to Clerkenwell, headquarters of the Knights Hospitallers in England and Sir Thomas Dingley went to Malta when the Knights Hosp. moved there after being thrown out of Cyprus, where they had gone after the Crusades. He became known as Tomassi Dingli and was responsible for several churches on the island. He was later beheaded.
The main family continued at Dingley until the manor passed out of the family through marriage.
Slightly earlier in the C14th the family established itself at Darley in the parish of Linkinhorne on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, where they remained until within living memory!! Extensive family trees exist of these Dingles.
Bear in mind that spelling was not standardised until the C19th and the surname is spelt in many different ways in the parish registers
