Sorry I could not help more. We visited Ballarat in 2002 and have a flake of gold to prove it!
One of our distant relatives was Caroline Carleton who wrote the "Song of Australia" which nearly became the OZ National Anthem! She lived in Wallaroo. She was Gt gt aunt to my grandmother who married into the Dingles.
There is a big department store in Plymouth called Dingles, not now run by the Dingle family. Also a tourist attraction on the Devon/Cornwall borders called Dingles Steam Village run by descendants of the Stoke Climsland Dingles. Look them up on a search engine.
