My great grandfather was Karl Valintine Dingel. I have him as born in Abergosbach, Germany on October 14, 1851. Immigrated to the US at the age of 15. He ran a saloon in Holland, Iowa around 1884. German roots seem to be confused. Uncle Paul (one of Karl's sons)said his mother was Low German and came from Breamen, Germany and came to the US with her folks. Uncle Paul said his dad was High German and came from Castle, Germany at the age of 14. They met and farmed in Grundy County. Helen Fetes wrote that another cousin said Karl came from Hessing Germany and his wife was from Bodin. Karl and Lena may have farmed for awhile at Buffalo Center, lost the farm, and moved to Holland. Would appreciate anything anyone has on this topic. cheers.
