My original question concerned Sara Elizabeth Dingus, and the fact that her two sons Samuel Crockett b3/21/1834 and James W. "Jim Crow" b.abt. 1836, both carried the Dingus surname. My research shows Sara b. 1809 in Russell Va., and a note (married - unknown) for the grooms name. Then on 11/12/1848 in Scott Co. VA She married George W. Thompson. From all the digging I've concluded that Sara had Sam and Jim out of wedlock.

If anyone knows differently - please put me on to your sources.

Samuel did marry Elizabeth Sulfridge b. 1837 m. 10/12/1858
second marriage to Harriett Hawkins b. abt.1848 m10/5/1867 in Russell Co. (first marriage was in Scott Co.)

Samuel and Harriett would be my gggrandparents on my father's fathers side. Their daughter Bettie "Betsy" Bell Dingus married my ggrandfather David W. Lyttle
