Dingwall from Killearnan, Ross-shire, Scotland
I am trying to trace descendants of this DINGWALL family from Killearnan Parish, Ross-shire, Scotland. They are linked to my Black Isle Macraes. Please do contact me if you have any further information.
ANNE MACRAE was born in Killearnan parish, Black Isle c.1805 and died on 16 October 1881 at the Free Church Manse of Poolewe, North Gairloch (where her son Ronald was Minister). In Killearnan parish on 31 July 1822 she married ALEXANDER DINGWALL who was a journeyman, joiner and grain miller. He was the son of JOHN DINGWALL, a head loom weaver, and Ann Junor, and was born in Killearnan parish c.1795; was living with his family in Cardross in 1861, and died at Renton, Cardross on 14 September 1864.Their children were:
1JOHN DINGWALL was born at Milton, Redcastle, Black Isle, Ross-shire on 20 June 1823 and was baptised in Killearnan parish on 16 (2.3.8.2.5.5.1 says 18th) July 1823 and died without issue.(Though there may be no connection, the following is of interest: a miller called John Dingwall born c.1824 was recorded as a visitor at Barvas manse, Isle of Lewis at the time of the 1851 Census. The head of the family there was Rev William Macrae [ 6 ].Rev William was born in Killearnan parish, as was John, and he maintained many links with the people in that parish.Bearing in mind that John's father was a miller, it is quite possible that the John Dingwall at Barvas in 1851 is the same John as this).
