I’ve only just found yours! Betsy Dingwall was my GG Grandmother. She was born December 15 1799 in Saltoun, d. of Charles, a weaver, later called a crofter. She married Robert Macleod in Knockbain December 27 1833. He is recorded as a shoemaker, but died some time between 1842 when John was born and 1851 when she is recorded as a widow. Must have been tough. Her eldest son Robert worked his way south, being various things like lock-keeper, quarry man, married Margaret Ann Macrae: my grandfather was one of their children.
Alexander seems to have been what they called ‘Ag Lab’, farm worker, who moved around different farms. John was indeed a baker in Fortrose, and presumably relatively ‘prosperous’ presumably providing for his mother latterly. She lived in SHore Street Avoch, where she died in 1876.
This is all I’ve been able to find so far, anything else would be helpful.
