Seeking further info onSamuel DUNSMORE alias DINSMORE,
born abt. 1754 Pennsylvania?, died 14 Feb 1802,
aged 48 years, on Steel Creek, York Co., SC. Buried
Old Unity (Presbyterian) Church Cem., now in Fort
Mill, SC. Samuel was married to Mary FARIES who
later married her cousin James FARIES (both bur.
Old Concord Cem., York Co., South Carolina).
Samuel had three or more children: a son Moses
(mentioned in will of Samuel's father 1777)(apparently
son of an earlier wife), Dorcas & Elizabeth (children of
Samuel Dunsmore, Jr., and Mary Faries. There
may have been a daughter Jane (buried at Ebenezer
Church Cem., York Co., SC).
Samuel was a Revolutionary patriot. He had a tract
of land on Steel Creek leased from the Catawba
Indians in York Co., SC, granted between 1787-1801.
There is a Mary DUNSMORE, (possibly Samuel's
mother), died 2 Oct 1790 Steel Creek, Mecklenburg
Co., NC, aged 75(?) years, buried at Old Steele
Creek Presb. Church cemetery, near Charlotte, NC.
Recently learned that my Samuel Dunsmore was
son of Samuel Dinsmore, Sr., and wife Mary.
Samuel, Senior, left an oral will in Peters
Township, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania,
in 1777.
Samuel Dinsmore's oral will, 24 Mar 1777:
wife Mary, son Samuel Dinsmore, daughters
Elizabeth, Mary, & Agness, grandson Moses
Dinsmore, a minor, two eldest daughters Jean
& Margaret.
Executors: Samuel Dinsmore & William Lowry.
Witnesses: William Lowry & Robert McCoy,
both of Peters Twp.

Was this Samuel Dinsmore, Sr., a
Revolutionary soldier, also?
