Hi,

Guillot was the proper spelling. However, for a period (1750-1850) where schooling was nil on the Gaspť coast and in New-Brunswick, priests and officials rlied on pronunciation to write the names. Guillot became Diot, Dyot, Diotte, Dyotte easily. One family in particular chose, for unknown reason to name themselves NoŽl in honor of NoŽl Guillot m. 1) Fillion, m. 2) Anne Beaudry. This family was living in Grande-RiviŤre. But the name NoŽl did not stick.

Correction: Louis Guillot did not marry Anne Beaudry.

Hope to hear from you

Jean-Pierre Joncas
