Hi Charlie,
re:the roots of Edwin Diplock (a painter) and Eliza Longley.
here we go ...
by the way ,they are my great, great ,grandparents.
Eliza's parents were a Charles Longley,baptised 9th.August 1816,and Eliza Mepham bapt.4th.Sept 1825.They were married at Battle, Sussex, England on 18th.July 1845.

By the way , this info comes from the Lewes Public Records Office , in Sussex, courtesy of a friend doing research on our behalf.

The witnesses at their wedding were a Sophia Mepham and a Henry Longley.

This Charles Longley was a hairdresser and his saloon was at 58 High Street, Battle, Sussex. He was definitely at this address in 1855,and still there in 1879...but by 1887, the saloon was being run by a William Longley.
Going back to Eliza Longley again...she had at least two siblings,ie; Richard c.1850, and Helen c.1851.
There probably were several more.
(I have info on siblings of Charles Longley and of Eliza Mepham)

Now , here are the parents of Charles Longley!
A Thomas Longley and a Sarah Gur,they were married in Battle on 1st. Feb. 1884.

Eliza Mepham's parents were a Richard Mepham c.1792 and a Sarah ? Richard was an agriculteral labourer.

Hope this all helps you Charles,
regards Chris.
