The two ladies I mentioned were probably aunts ("aunts"?) of my great grandmother, Pauline Lensing (who married John Brinker). She was born on October 12, 1861 in Rhineland Missouri and died in California. Pauline's death record does not give a mother's maiden name. Pauline was very likely a descendant of Gerard Lensing. He is mentioned in a piece on the web regarding Theodor van Dreveldt of Emmerich, near Rees. (I am afraid I don't have the URL, but search for Theodor van Dreveldt and you will quickly find the piece.) Pauline and her husband John spoke German in their home their whole lives. Pauline's cousin from Rhineland Mo was Constance Lensing. Constance's mother's maiden name is listed in the on-line California death records as "Diesch." (Look for Constance Allgeyer, father's last name Lensing, mother's maiden name Diesch). Provisionally, I assume "Diesch" is a spelling variant of "Disch." I have several envelopes (but not the contents) for letters written by the Disch aunts to Pauline from the first decade of the 20th century showing return addresses. I have a letter to Pauline from the 1920's from a next generation individual who was spending the summer in Europe saying they planned to stop in Rees to "look up your old aunts." Again, provisionally, one or more Disch women. There were a number of Lensings in Rhineland and still are a few, as best I can determine. That is about it.

John Brinker
