Mary:
With all the William Disheroons out there; it's been difficult to tell which one is which. I've been doing some digging on that, especially as Dave's info seems to indicate the William who settled in NC before 1790 was a son of the first Waitman.
Fortunately, my Dad has located a 'write-up' on William and John that was given to him by one of his aunts. I'll have to ask him which one. That document is where the original story on the french Captains came from. It won't be available for 2-3 weeks; because he passed that info on to me on Monday (4/16) and he left the country on vacation yesterday. He'll be back on the 2nd of May; and he's promised to either draft the document into Word or scan it into his system as a picture file, and e-mail it to me. So, w/in a few weeks, we WILL have some documentation w/ which to base the legend on and trace down the right William.
Still working on all the info Dave's got in his website, there's a LOT to sort through.
Jack
