Mellisa, My father (also Thomas) born in Fulton County, Pa. in 1890 said that his grandparents spoke French and he was sure they never spoke German. So I am assuming that they were from the "French" orgin. His grandmother was a Mellot and they were French.

i will look through my extensive files and see if I can find a reference to your father's family.
