Invitation to participate in on-going family research

My name is Ginny Barrs. I have been researching the Dismukes family for over 10 years. I started out just researching my own line, but it required gathering data on all the Dismukes to untangle the various Johns and Williams. So now I have a quite large database.

My goal is to visit as many of the southern state archives and county court houses as I possibly can in the next few years. Gathering copies or at least the sources for the data on the Dismukes family. I hope to publish this in a format usable to future researchers and telling an interesting story for those with casual interest in the family from it's establishment in Virginia up to about 1870.

Right now I am back in Virginia traveling in our RV visiting various counties. We have already been in King & Queen, Caroline, Spotsylvania, Hanover & Goochland Counties and the Virginia Library (state archives) and Va Historical Society Library.

Today we went to Mecklenburg and tomorrow we head for Halifax & Pittsylvania counties in the southern part of Virginia. In the coming weeks I will move into North Carolina. I'm not sure whether we will turn towards Tennessee or continue into South Carolina & Georgia after that.

I would welcome researchers familiar with the family members who lived Virginia and Carolina to get in touch with me by email. I look forward to your questions & guidance to help direct the research in these counties.

I am working on the WHOLE Dismukes family story - and only up to about 1870. I typically DO NOT collect data past 1900 as this is beyond the scope of the project.

Please get in touch and ask questions, suggest places / libraries or nearby counties to research. I cannot promise I will answer - my priority is doing the research. I will stay in touch as best I can. We are staying in some remote places.

Look forward to your communications and making this a community project.

Ginny Barrs
