Re: Spelling variations of DITMER / DITTMAR

My great-grandfather, Albert Dittmer, was a Ditmar from the Schlesweig-Holstein region of Germany. He settled in North Dakota in the early 1900's.

What little information I have been able to gather on the name and variations of DITTMER suggests that the name is related to the marshy coastlands of Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, etc. Variations of the name DITTMER appear in mant many northern European countries.
