Don't know if this is of any interest to you, but I have John W. Wheatley's war record from the National Archives. He enlisted at Aledo IL on 3/31/1864 in the 30th Regiment, Co. A, Illinois Infantry. He was 18 years, 3 months old. He certified, "I, John W. Wheatley, born in Warren Co. in the State of Illinois aged 18 years, and by occupation a Farmer do hereby acknowledge to have volunteered this Thirtyfirst day of March 1864, to serve as a soldier in the Army of the United States of America, for the period of THREE YEARS, unless sooner discharged by proper authority; do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, rations, and clothings, as are, or may be, established by law for volunteers..." He apparently signed it himself;his handwriting is very awkward, though. Below the recruiting officer certified that John W. had "blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, is five feet six inches high." He received a $180 bounty. In July and August, 1864, he is listed "sick in hospital at Marietta, Ga." In September and October 1864 (just following the Battle of Atlanta)he is listed sick in covalescent camp in Atlanta, Ga. He is listed as being sick in hospital until February 1865. The nature of his illness is nowhere specified. He rejoined his company and was mustered out on July 17, 1865 at Louisville, Ky.

I also have photos of Will and Rose Wheatley and Lewis N. Ditto and Elizabeth Wheatley.
