Hi there...I am in Canada, and we have had about four generations of dittrich over here...originally from the Berlin area I believe. (came here in the late 1800's) As for the origins of the name, a relative of mine did some research into the name, and it apparantly means "keeper of the Keys", or more specifically of the skeleton keys to all the doors in medieval type castles. hope that helps!
