Hello Colleen,
It sounds as though there might be a connection between your Thomas Simpson and his twin sister because of the naming patterns. We certainly have Dixons and Dicksons in our family. Some of the family were in the area of Franklin Co.PA, but that was in the 1700's. Most all of them left for VA or the Carolinas around 1758 or so. Mine were in Kentucky from 1787 to 1823, when Missouri became a state they followed Damiel Boone and moved to Ralls and then Monroe Co. MO.
However, some of the family could have stayed in PA and never left. In fact, there were quite a few that did. I really don't know about Thomas Simpson in 1847 in PA unless he was part of William Simpson's grandchildren. William Simpson and Nancy Hines had a large family of children, many of whom moved out to what was then, wilderness. In checking that area in 1751, I found Andrew Simpson, who was a grandson of William's and a Nathaniel Simpson, both in the Franklin area. Whether these two are related or not is another thing. William was the father of William Simpson, who married Isabella Wilson.
I wish had something more to help you with on this, but you might try researching Andrew Simpson, he had a son Thomas, however, again this would be in the 1700's.
Hope this helped a little!
Sincerely,
Bonnie Simpson Valko
