Golden Wedding ~ Mr. and Mrs. Jno Dixon
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, August 20, 1908
In commemoration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary about thirty-five
relatives and close friends gathered at the home of MR. and MRS. JNO. DIXON,
Tuesday, Aug. 18, to help them celebrate in a befitting manner. ELIZA COLE
was married to JNO. DIXON Aug. 18, 1858, near Nelsonville, Ohio, where the
young couple went to housekeeping and lived for ten years, moving to Lucas
County, Iowa, in '68 where they made their home until a few years ago, when
they retired to Russell, where they have since made their home.
To this union were born fifteen children, seven dead and eight who still
survive. All the eight were present on this occasion excepting MRS. MARY
HUSTON, of Alta, Canada, and R.J., of St. Louis. Twenty-six grandchildren,
thirteen boys and thirteen girls, are proud to call this worthy couple
grandparents, eighteen of whom were present.
The other guests were Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hanlin of Chariton, Mr. and Mrs. C.H
Post, Mrs. L.A. Patterson and Mrs. Hulgan of near Columbia. Mrs. Hanlin,
Mr. and Mrs. Post and Mrs. L.A. Patterson were guests at the wedding fifty
years ago, Mrs. Patterson having acted in capacity of bridesmaid.
A sumptuous two-course dinner was served, and several beautiful and
expensive presents were received, all bearing the engraving of '58-'08. MRS
DIXON has preserved the wedding dress and upon request of the grandchildren
was attired in the same dress worn fifty years before.
The day was also a birthday anniversary of their son GEORGE, who was
presented a beautiful rocking chair. MR. and MRS. DIXON have been residents
of Lucas County a great many years and number their friends by their
acquaintances. That they may live to celebrate their seventy-fifth wedding
anniversary is the wish of many.
