James Kirk Dixon

BURLINGTON - James Kirk Dixon, 91, formerly of Burlington, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Pittsboro Christian Village, where they have been living for the past 15 months. Kirk was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 72 years to Nora Anderson Dixon, who survives.
Kirk was the owner and operator of Kirk Dixon Home Improvement Company in Burlington before retirement. He attended Ireland Street Chapel where he served as an Elder, Trustee and Sunday School teacher for many years. Kirk was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he proudly served his country. He was a loving and devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Anderson Dixon and his daughter, Nancy Joyce Dixon, both of the Pittsboro Christian Village; foster son, David Russell and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Livingston of Burlington and brothers, Charles Dixon and his wife, Jo and Hurley Dixon and his wife, Virginia all of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Hurley Dixon and Mabel Dean Kirkpatrick Dixon; sons, James K. Dixon Jr. and Roy Gwyn Dixon Sr.; sisters, Ruth Huey and Jean King and brothers, Joe Dixon and Jack Dixon.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Ireland Street Chapel by Dr. Larry Dixon and J. Eddie Schwartz and the family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A private burial will be held prior to the service. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
