Male Dixon - Buncombe or Madison Counties, NC - 1840's

Trying to identify Dixon possibilities for father of my great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Massey, born in 1847 in Buncombe or Madison County, NC area.

He appeared on the 1850 and 1860 US census records living with Mary Polly Massey, with no adult male in the household. Mary Polly was the likely illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth "Betsy" Massey and Thomas Reavis(Revis). She could possibly have spent some time in Tennessee or Mississippi with relatives.

My great grandfather married Vianna Rice and moved to Clay County KY in the early 1870's where they raised a large family.

My closest matches with the FTDNA Y2-DNA tests are several Dixons and one Wilkerson, but no Masseys...

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.
