I am trying to sort out a mystery . I am directly decended of the Eastham Doanes as well ... I have a photo of the family homestead plot and rock .. and the Doane Book ...
I am trying to find out the names of any SHIPS my great - great grandfather may have been Captain of , and where he sailed .
He was Justus Doane , b. @ Eastham in 1843
Married Amanda Hinkley in Eastham 1864
Had a Daughter Elizabeth in 1870 ( my great grandmother )
And another one JENNIE b. 3/ 25/1974 ( any cousins out there ? *smile*)
In the years 1865 - 1893 he would have been 22 - 50 years old .
I have His and Amanda's portraits , done in Proveincetown , as well as bits of furniture , and personal items .
My grandmother ( his granddaughter) always said he was "Captain of the Whaling Fleet in Provincetown" and I wish to learn all I can .
I am going to guess he was most active between 1868 - 1888)
(ages 25- 45 )
ANY leads or clues or suggestions would be helpful. I see thier portraits daily and they implore me to unravel this mystery .
Thanks in advance for any suggestions !
PS I have BEEN to the Doane Estate "Hall of Utkington " in Tarporely , England ... it is just as described in the Doane book ! On the Welsh Hills of Cheshire
