I have a Doane married into my Stewart Line and in looking for information about him, his grand daughter gave me the name of a book, The Doane Family by A.A. Doane published 1903. It has John Doane (deacon) in Plymouth about 1629 or 30. Family lore had it that he had come over on the Mayflower, but that is not true per this author. If you go to Caleb Johnson's Mayflower website there is a list of the passengers of the three ships that arrived including the Mayflower. Perhaps that will give you more clues.
