24 oct 2012 from Warren Forsythe
my best contact for this: genealogy118 (at) fairpoint.net
1880 US census of Lincoln Twp, Japser Co MO has
Thomas W Roberts aged 41 born in Canada
Samantha A Roberts aged 35 born in OH
[most of the children were by a previous wife Hannah Phillips who'd died 1877 reportedly in MO, aged 34 or 35 born Canada]
QUESTION: who?? might be able to tell me about what happened to those and post-1880 children when they were orphaned by 1891 death of Samantha A and 1899 death of Thomas W : both died probably in/near Jasper Co MO ?????
I was researching my cousin Doane Brodie’s line of Doane ancestry (although he didn’t know he had any such Doane surname ancestry until today)
preliminary results posted at
So I wanted to ask if you anyone who might follow any descendants of that line:
Mahlon Doane 1770 PA – 1852 Ontario Canada, and his daughter
Elizabeth Baldwin Doane 1806 PA and d. 1872 Muscatine Co Iowa;
her son Thomas West Roberts 1838 Ontario and d. 1899 Jasper Co MO
(he married Hannah Phillips, then after she died, remarried Samantha Lazenby 1877 Jasper Co MO )
QUESTION??? What happened to the various kids WHEN PARENTS DIED: SHE DIED 1891 and he died 1899
younger kids were 13 years old or so when he died.
I found June 1900 US census of Jackson Co Oregon the 2nd youngest child Maud Ethel Roberts (1884 MO – 1945 WA)
was living with her half sister from her father’s first marriage, Grace Lee Roberts who had
1896 married a Jackson Co Oregon groom michael finley Hanley born 1871.
But Grace evidently died soon; so the teenager Maud may have had further adventures surviving in Oregon?
And other of those above orphaned Doane descendants must have had similar desperate stories???
