am researching the history of my grandfathers brother, Thomas Docherty
Thomas was, according to the Scottish goverment records office, birth records, born 21 Dec 1870 in Lanarkshire. He married Agnes LYONS on 19 Feb 1897 at Hamilton.
he and Agnes subsequently had 4 children born in Scotland
Sarah, born 27 July 1897
Charles, born 22 Nov 1899
Ellen, born 8 June 1901
Angus born about 1903, and
Emily, born abt Dec 1908 - Jan 1909, in USA, probably Illinois, Cahokia township
I know that Thomas, his wife Agnes, Ellen (Helen) are buried in St. Josephs cemetery, Alton, Illinois, but have no further information, other than than shown below.
Feb 12, 1930 - Thomas died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton IL, where he'd been a patient for 8 days following surgery for acute appendicitis
(perforated); as of Feb 12, 1930, he'd been a resident of Alton Illinois (Madison County) for 2 years and 1 month - ....Residential address as of Feb 1930
was 623 East 4th Street in Alton.
January 23, 1933 - Agnes died, also at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton, where it seems she'd been a patient for 4 days - but had been ill for at least 13
months. She'd had surgery for breast cancer in 1931 - this occurred after Thomas died. As of her death Jan 23, 1933, her death certificate said she'd been a resident of Alton/Madison County for 7 years. Residential address as of Jan 1933 was 605 Central Avenue in Alton.
Helen Docherty married Frederick J. Schreiber. They had at least 2 sons, one named Paul Schreiber.

Sarah married Walter A. Schreiber
Frederick J. Schreiber - died MARCH 9, 1966- he was a retired police sergeant & police magistrate, married to HELEN DOCHERTY on May 30, 1929.
As of the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Helen and two sons. His obituary was published in the Alton Evening Telegraph on Thursday, March 10, 1966;
section B, page 15, column 5.
Helen Schreiber - died FEBRUARY 10, 1971; born in Scotland June 8, 1901 - as of her death, only one son, Paul Schreiber of St. Louis, Missouri, survives.
Her obituary was published in the Alton Evening Telegraph on Thursday, February 11, 1971; section D, page 3, column 9.
