Matthew Dockery, b 1814, received a land grant for his service in the Republic of Texas, the Summerville campaign, finally pushing Santa Anna's army back to Mexico for good, in 1836. His land grant was along the Brazos River, 640 acres, that he sold immediately. He received this grant very late in his life, shortly before he died actually.
