Hi I have been trying to find the connection with this whole Dockery, McKay, Rice group for several years. My family was from Maury Co Tn , some moved to Hickman TN then they went to New Madrid MO, in approx 1876.

During research in NM MO on James Marion Dockery and his siblings , one of whom is my gg-grandma Mary Elizabeth Dockery Shepard. I found the will for William Dockery of MS and it had the 2 children Frances Rice married to Cherry ect.
I found Ed McKay and another researcher ( drawing a blank right now) who were related somehow to an Elizabeth McKay ( either her mariied or maiden name )
and they found letters from the Civil War FROM my James Dockery refering to Elizabeth as "Aunt". The letters were in a wall of an old farmhouse in Hernando MS. Ed is no longer with us but his wife trys to do some of his work.

My James M. Dockery ( of which there are 2 (-: I will call them Sr. and Jr.)is the nephew of James SR! The father of my James was John J. Dockery who was the brother of James Marion Dockery who went to Fannin TX or his decendants did. There was Hiram~ William~ James Marion SR and John J. I haven't done any research in awhile and my info is in another computer and in folders and many many papers.
I know that William died in TN I believe his wife was Sarah Southern. Hiram was lost James Sr stayed and John J went onto Hickman then his children went to NM MO.

John J Dockery was married to a Mahala ?? unknown who was born in Mississippi! ( My g-aunt who is 94 thinks it was Mahala Mulvany??? ) He was from SC as were the above brothers their parents were Balaam Dockery of SC and was in War of 1812 and Abigail unknown.

NOW THERE ARE 2 BALAAM DOCKERY'S ALL HAVING THE SAME NAMES OF FAMILY MEMBERS 1 IS FROM NC AND 1 IS SC. THERE ARE MANY MANY SIMILARITIES TO THE 2 AND THE BORDERS DID CHANGE ALLOT DURING THE TIMES. I HAD ALOT OF NOTES AND COPIES OF THINGS SHOWING WHEN AND WHERE THE 2 STATE LINES CHANGED, AND SOMETIMES I FEEL THEY ARE THE SAME MAN BUT NO PROOF!

I will get my hubby to hook up my FTM so I can get into my files and will get my Dockery notes out. I have copies of war docs, marriage licenses AND FOUNG HIRAM DOCKERY! His probate was in NM MO and he died in ca. 1977

I also have a full folder on the other Balaam Dockery. NOW if you aren't totally confused the Shepards were all named Lewis Shepard spelled 3-4 ways lived in same areas I do believe that Hickman lost alot of records, I have been there and dug for days. And all surrounding counties BUT Maury Tn. I had to step back due to illness .

BUT I AM DOING THIS OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD AND HAVE READ YOUR 2 NOTES ON THESE FAMILES AND HAD TO RESPOND.

You can contact me at abbent1@aol.com, would love to crack this puzzle and I know several others who would also and willing to help! All the McKays, Dockerys and all are very familier names and I will send this to Ed's wife.

Debi Bentley
4x g-granddaughter of Balaam and Abigail Dockery
gg-granddaughter of Mary Elizabeth Dockery Shepard
