Thank you Curtis for more info.

Another question. Do you know where in Ireland John was born? I am assuming it was No. Ireland.

Have you tried the Irish site called PRONI which is Public Record Office NO. Ireland. It is a gem.

I have found records for John, Thomas and James Dodds in Toome,Antrim on the 1740 Freeholder's Census.

There is a Thomas Dodds in Armagh 1753.

In Down we find Thomas and James Dodds 1754. John, Wm., John,Saml'Dodds 1766.
Wm. & John Dodds in 1793 also in Down. After 1775, there are other Dodds' living in Down.

I was so thrilled to find any Dodds'. Now need to pin them down.
Lots of Irish records have been destroyed. Some of these are actual records to copy while others are information from Parishes, churches, etc. Happy hunting.

More food for thought. I am related to Thomas "Seaborn" (whom I didn't know was notorious). His son Wm. b.1790 d. 1874 married Nancy Ekin b. 1792. She is in my Ekin(Eakin) line which I am researching.
