Dodds Family PA-OH-Ireland - John Dodds 1771
I am looking for any information on the family of John Dodds (1771-1850) I have the lineage from him down to myself (6 generations). I also have pictures of every Dodds' headstone in this line too for anyone interested. Here is what I know:
John Dodds ran away as a child from County Donegal, Ireland. He served an apprenticeship on a British merchant ship bound for India. He remained at sea for awhile and while in Philadelphia remained on land. He headed to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and began rafting boats down to New Orleans from Pittsburgh, and sold cargo, ship and all and walked back. He later settled in Washington County, PA (alternating between Independence and West Middletown). In 1818, he married Sarah McKeever (1797-?) of West Middletown, PA. They had seven children: Agnes (1819-1826), Thomas, James (1822-1905), Margaret (married Lewis Applegate of WV), Mary Ann (married William Dodds of Washington Iowa), John, and William. He was very generous and lived on a farm called the Old Homestead. He was a Whig and a Presbyterian.
**He paid for his brother to come over to America from Ireland and bought him a residence in Harrison County, Ohio.
My lineage is John Dodds (1771-1850)- James Dodds ( 1822-1905) - Robert Wylie Dodds (1858-1933) - JohnLester Dodds (1895-1961), My grandfather, My Father, and me (Aaron Richard Dodds 1984-)
*****What I need help in finding is John Dodds (1771)'s brothers name whom lived in Harrison County or any other sibling. Also I'd really love to find John Dodds' parents name so I can continue on my research.********
I have all the children and wives of the above mentioned lineage and pictures of the headstones of the ones whom died, as well as a picture of the homestead in Richmond, Ohio. If anyone is interested just e-mail me or post.
Thank you, Aaron
