Joseph Dorey (Doerr?) from Germany - Scioto Co. OH

I have a copy of an 1850 Census of Scioto County Ohio.
Listed with Thomas W. Gilmore age 67, is Elizabeth age 52, Mary Vanort age 37, Veronica Vanort age 19, Eve Fishburn age 89, and Joseph Dorey age 13(with Germany listed as his birthplace). At first I thought their must be some type of relationship between the Gilmore's and Joseph. Then I thought "Dorey" isn't exactly a German surname. I am beginning to wonder if the census taker could have written down the surname incorrectly. Also, this Joseph could have been living with the Gilmore's as "farm help" considering the Gilmore's ages. Joseph does not appear in this household in the 1840 census, of course he would have been only 3 y/o and possibly still in Germany at that time. I have not been able to check the 1860 census/index. Could he possibly belong to the Lawrence County Doerr's?
