I don't have good records about the African-American Doggett lines, but I do have a little about Henry and Alice Hamilton. Henry was the son of Gus and Ellen Hamilton of Edgefield County, SC. They were born in 1863 and 1864, respectively, during the Civil War, but I don't know if they were slaves or free. Henry was born somewhere around 1885-87 in South Carolina. His wife, Alice, was two years younger. They had at least 15 children, all probably born in Edgefield County. The children were: Willie (son); Mary; Lee; Ellen; Elizabeth; Jesse James; Henry, Jr.; Fred; Harvey; Harry; Alice; Bernice; Anthony; Carrie; and Louis R. There may have been other children born after 1930. You may contact me directly by E-mail if you wish.
