Help with DOHERTY, NC, 1700-1850
Need brick wall help.
Anthony DOHERTY Sr. Have found 17 different spellings
for this surname. Beginning in the late 1800s, the family used DORITY. Was in Orange Co NC in 1784 when he was exempted from taxes for infirmity, or possibly as late as 1796 in "sale" of 20a to "son" James [very possibly a delayed deed]
According to the 1880 Mortality Schedule listing of his grandson,Anthony III, Old Anthony was born in Ireland, date unknown. Spouse unknown.
Probable children:James married Ester COHERN [my g+grandparents],Anthony Jr married Mary McCOOL, he was a Tory as were the McCOOLs and they "fled" to Canada where Jr died in 1797;Joseph ???;Thomas married Eunice MOORE;
Mary 'Polly' married Samuel COLE.
I just know there are folks lurking out there who have all
the good info.
