Hi Bob:

I've done a little bit of digging around for you. I have found that Calstock is actually in Cornwall, just over the Devon border, and very near to the city of Plymouth (see for a fully searchable UK map - search for Tavistock as a UK Placename - this page also shows Mary Tavy as located in Devon, with Calstock and Mary Tavy on opposite sides of Tavistock). This is a good clue, because I found a Jane Doidge christening record on the Mormon site (see and search for Jane Doidge) from Sept. 28, 1684 in Mary Tavy - she was the daughter of Arthur and Joane Doidge.

My Jane appears to have been the wife of John Sweet Doidge, a printer and bookseller in Redruth, Cornwall, as early as 1854. I have some references to them in a book about the history of Redruth, now I just need to find someone with access to the book. If you poke around in the LDS site, you'll find that "Jane Doidge" was a rather popular name in Cornwall & Devon, both as a maiden and as a married name.

I also found the names Boulden & Hosking in Cornish lists, and I have more digging to do on them. I'm very excited about having Cornish ancestry - it appears to be an extremely interesting little corner of the world!
