Gary-I've been around and about this Doiron/Durant business from P.E.I. for a long time. My mother in law was a Durant from Portage, P.E.I. and moved to Maine. Have accumulated quite a bit of info on the family over time.
Lemuel Thomas Durant was baptized Thomas Doiron at Rustico on October 24, 1858. His father was Pacifique Doiron (b.Aug.13,1833,Rustico) and hid mother was Marguerite Gallant. Both lines continue.
He married Alfretta Norwood in Amherst, ME on March7, 1885. Died Farmingdale, ME on September 12, 1936.
It was common enough for Doiron's to Anglicize to Durant but when/where he acquired the Lemuel name is not known to me. Anyway, I'm looking at a picture of Lemuel and Alfretta right now (from my records). Hope this helps. Dennis Breton
