CELESTIN DOIRON and ADELAIDE MORELL

My maternal gg-grandfather was born and baptized at Pomquet, NS., on Oct 5, 1829. He was originally named DAMIEN DOIRON. His parents were CELESTIN DOIRON and ADELAIDE MORRELL. The Doirons moved to Isle Madame from Pomquet sometime in the 1840's or 1850's. DAMIEN now called "DANIEL", married SABINE LANDRY, daughter of ABRAHAM LANDRY and DOMITHILDE LeBLANC of Little (now West) Arichat, in 1853. There unfortunately is a gap in the Arichat parish records between 1852 and 1854, so the record of DANIEL and SABINE's marriage has been lost. DANIEL and SABINE had at least SIX children: (1) ALEXANDRE, (2) JACQUES-DANIEL (my great-grandfather), (3) MARIE-A, (4) FREDERIC (also called Alfred), (5) MARTHE-JEANNE and THOMAS. In 1880, my gg-grandparents were living at Plymouth, Mass., with their children James, Alfred and Mary who were all employed at a cotton Mill. They moved to Newton, Mass., a few years later my gg-grandfather died in 1887. It appears that HE always used the name of THOMPSON in Massachusetts. My gg-grandfather MELANSON was also from Pomquet. He was born Jan. 22, 1841 and was baptized at Pomquet the following day. His parents were FELIX MELANSON and EUPHROSINE LANDRY. The Melanson family DID NOT all move to Isle Madame as the DOIRONS did. But my gg-grandfather was there by 1869, for on Jan. 11, 1869 he married my gg-grandmother there. EMILIE-MARGARITE LUCAS was originally from the Port Royal section of West Arichat, where she wasa born on Dec. 13, 1846. Her parents were JOHN LUCAS and SABINE LeBLANC. Incidentally, SABINE LeBLANC was a sister of my great-grandfather's great-grandmother DOMITHILDE LeBLANC; the two sisters were daughters of GAETAN LeBLANC and MARGUERITE BOUDROT (Boudreau) of Port Royal (or as it was called in their lifetimes, Grand Ruisseau). FIDELE MELANSON and EMILIE-MARGUERITE LUCAS had at least nine children: (1) SABINE-EUPHOSINE, (2) JEAN-FELIX, (3) GUILLAUME, (4) MELINA (my great-grandmother), (5) HENRI, (6) MARIE, (7) CATHERINE, (8) JOSEPH-FIDELE-ALBERT, (9) MARIE-FLORA. Most of these descendants of this family live in CHELSEA, Massachusetts under the name of THOMPSON......an American adopted name my grandparents CLEOPHAS HENRY DOIRON and ALICE ELIZABETH POST used during their lives. THey are both deceased at the present time.
