Durand with a D exists as a Quebec surname. It's included in the Tanguay dictionary in Vol.4 which you can find online at the Bibliotheque et Arcives nationales of Quebec.

This source stops in the late 1700s, early 1800s but it might serve as a clue.

I suggest you post at the Quebec Rootsweb Locality sites, or check if there is a surname site there for it.
