Thanks Fran. You have been very helpful. My great grandfather was married in or around Ft. Smith, Arkansas. His name was listed on the marriage certificate as M.D. Dokey. His wife was Ada Ann Holland. This was in 1879 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. My grandfather was born in 1881 in Alabama according to the 1900 census. I can't find where he died, but my Dad said that my grandfather didn't know anything about his father. His mother re-married and then she died when he was about 8 or 9. I had heard that they were french Canadian and had settled in Michigan, but how he got to Arkansas is a mystery.
