Hi, not my line, doing research for a friend, a Dokey. 1850 U.S. Census NEW YORK, Monroe County, Town of Greece Stephen Dokee age 48 born Canada, wife Elizabeth age 38 born Canada, children: David age 18 born Canada, Edward age 13 born NY, Em..r.. (I think this is Emory)age 11? born NY, Stephen age 9 born NY, Charles age 7 born NY, William age 2 born NY. Civil War records include Emery Dokey, John Dokey, Mitchel Dokey, Stephen Dokey, Charles Dokey, David J. Dokey, and Edward Dokey. Charles Dokey (lived in White Pigeon, MICHIGAN)and Stephen Dokey BOTH enlisted in the Union Army, 42nd Infantry Regiment Illinois, which mustered out in TEXAS. 1860 U.S. Census has D.J. Dokey age 27 born 1833 CANADA living in Mason, Cass County, MICHIGAN (post office Adamsville) with Maria age 21, Elizabeth age 16, Emery age 20, Edward age 23. Corporal Dokey was in Berdan's Sharpshooters for the Union Army in the Civil War, lived at Cassopolis, MICHIGAN (discharged in Philadelphia). Perhaps some of the family made it back home to Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana after the war. The 1870 U.S. Census has an Emory Dokey age 28 born NY and John Dokey age 19 born NY working as brickmakers in Kalamazoo, MICHIGAN. Also, in the 1870 Census is an Emery Dokey age 27 born NY working as a farm laborer in Cass County, MICHIGAN. My guess is all are related, good luck on your research.
