Charles Elmer Dokey Sr.

Dokey Sr., Charles Elmer Born in Climax, Mich., on April 7, 1919, and a resident of Baton Rouge,LA for more than 50 years, Charles Elmer Dokey Sr. died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at St. Clare Manor Nursing Home at age 87. Mr. Dokey retired in May 1980 from the USPHS Hospital in Carville,LA where he was a chef and baker for many years. He also worked at Ethyl Corp. and was self-employed as a baker for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1946. He was an active member of the Florida Boulevard Baptist Church and also of the Masonic lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and cooking. He is survived by his wife, Fay B. Collins Dokey; daughter, Theresa Dokey Morales and husband Melvyn J. Morales; seven grandchildren, Keith and wife Tanya, Kevin, Kenneth and wife Mona, Kristopher and wife Danielle Morales, Melissa and husband Terry Landry, Denise and Mark Rogers, and Deanna and husband Spencer Tani; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Cameron and Ethan Morales; stepchildren, Wilkie Joe and wife Penny Collins, Dan S. Collins and wife Marian Pyle; and numerous stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Luella Dokey; his son, Charles Elmer Dokey Jr.; and four sisters, Ethel Mathews, Gertrude Rouse, Evelyn Stuke and Marion Tuft. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd.,Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, Aug. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Stephen Trammell. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith, Kevin, Kenneth and Kris Morales, Ed Hoover, Andrew Morales, Terry Landry and Sheldon Pierce. Memorial donations may be made to the Florida Boulevard Baptist Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a favorite charity.

Charles Elmer Dokey Sr was the son of Elmer Dokey, who was the son of John Dokey, who was the son of Abram Dokey, who was the son of Stephen Dokey.
