I have my line traced back to Thomas Doles (variations: Dowle(s), Dowse, Dowes, Douse, Dawse, Dawes), his will proved 25 Sep 1721 in Southampton co. Virginia.

The name may very well have further been corrupted by later generations to Doyle/Doyel/Doyal, but I do not personally know of any connection.

Remember most people in those days could not read or wright and had officials often signed names for them. Therfore many names we have on documents are only phonetic translations.
