Dolleys and The Battle of Hastings 1066
Posted by: Chris Dolley Date: December 09, 2000 at 23:31:04

I was reading a book on the History of Caen last week and it included a list of those that had followed William the Conqueror from Normandy to England in 1066. Of the 200 named were Raoul D'Oilli and Robert D'Oilli. Our family, the Dolleys, are descended from them. The name Dolley originates from the five Norman villages in the departement of Calvados called Ouilly of which Pont d'Ouilly is the largest.
