My understanding of this episode is that three Dollhof children were captured by Indians on their walk to school.Olga Dolloff who lived in the Dolliff Homestead in the 1990s showed me the spot near a creek where she understood they were taken. As I heard it, the Dolloff family persuaded the colonial legislature to ransom the two boys back but they could not raise enough funds for the girl. She eventually married an Indian and they returned to try to live near Exeter but the cultural divide was too great for them to stay and they moved back to his culture. At this time the Exeter area was on the border with French and Indian controlled Maine and such raids were commonplace until the British and colonial forces broke the back of the French Canada in 1763.
