James Dolphin 1846+ Portsea Hants Englan

Hello
Any Dolphins out there?

My great grandfather James Alfred Dolphin was born about 1846. He married Sarah Ann Wilsher (born 3 Aug 1852, Botley Hampshire) St Mary's, Portsea, Hampshire 30 May 1870. On the marriage cert one witness was Caroline Dolphin, and his Father was said to be Daniel Dolphin, Gentleman. This seems a little odd since James occupation was down as Hawker! He subsequently joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker.

James and Sarah children were 1. Charles Alfred b 1871, emigrated to Sydney, NSW, Australia, wife believed to be Martha. 2. William James b 2 Apr 1873, married Elizabeth Jenkins. 3. John Bertie b 1882.

Would be very pleased to hear of any connections, in particular news of James Alfred's birth and parents would be most welcome. Would also like to follow up the Australian connection.

Robert
