I recently received a query from a fellow member (not on the internet) of the Glamorgan Fam Hist Society sent to me because of my interest in the Dolphin family. A copy is under. My Dolphins are not connected as far I know. If anyone has a connection please let me know and I will pass on any information.
<< My interest is in the farms and their tenants in the Neath area and I was aware of a Dolphin resident at one of the Dulais Valley farms, a little above Crynant village. Here are the details:-
The farm is also shown in records as Gelli and Gellidochi. One owner of the property reckoned that a part of the house dated from 1450.
1858 Instructions given for place to be let.
29 Mar 1861 Mr John Dolphin, 22, buried Cadoxton. He was the son of the late Rev. John Walker Dolphin, vicar of Lower Guiting and Farmcotte
1861 Census. 123 acres employ 2 men, 3 women, 1 boy.
Jane Dolphin, 47, widow of vicar.
Charlse Gill Wynne, 20, nephew, b. Stratford on Avon, Warwick.
Mary Jane Dolphin, 17, daughter, b. Glos.
1866 Advertised for let and bought by Robert Valentine Leach who owned the Vernon House Assylum in Briton Ferry.
I know nothing more of this family and if you have any further information, eg. Where they came from and where they went to, I would be interested in hearing from you. Why did they come to Crynant? >>
Does any one claim these Dolphins? I will pass on any info posted.
