Hi again Doc,

Sorry, after I posted the last message, I realized that in the last paragraph I had listed your G-grandfather as George instead of John.

I found the following in the ĎIllinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763 Ė 1900í Ė
Groom: Domm, John - Bride: White, Nora - County: LaSalle - Date: 10/07/1875 - Volume: E - License #: 1172

I found the following in the 1900 US Federal Census, State: Illinois, County: LaSalle, Village of Crotty, Roll: T623 316, Image # 417 Ė

Name Relation Sex Birth Age Status
Domm, Nora Head F Jan 1842 58 Wd
George Son M Aug 1876 23 S
Franklin Son M Feb 1879 21 S
Larry Son M Jun 1888 11 S
John Son M Jun 1885 14 S

Born F Born M Born Occupation Ownership of Home
Illinois Ireland Ireland Own Home/Free
Illinois Illinois Illinois Laborer

Illinois Illinois Illinois at school

I realize that the 1900 census shows Father born in Illinois for the boys, but itís possible that Nora did this on purpose. She doesnít show that she was born in Ireland, which you will see in the 1880 Census. Itís possible that neither John nor Nora ever applied for citizenship.

Sorry it took so long to post this message, but you can see the reason below. I was going to recommend that you try the 1880 Census for Crotty, IL and then I decided to take a quick look for myself. Results follow:

I found the following in the 1880 US Federal Census, State: Illinois, County: LaSalle, Village of Crotty, Roll: T9 223, Image # 274 Ė

Name Sex Age Relation Status Occupation Born F Born M Born
Domm, John M 50 M Grocer Bavaria Bavaria Bavaria
Nora F 35 Wife M Keep house Ireland Ireland Ireland
Georg M 3 Son S Illinois Bavaria Ireland
Frank M 1 Son S Illinois Bavaria Ireland

∑       Notice John spelled Georg without the e.

How about that Ė no info for over a year and then 3 Census records and a marriage record in one day !

If I havenít bored you with helpful hints, if you decide to look for John on passenger lists, Iíd look under Johann also. Just like Wm is an abbreviation for William, John is a European abbrev. for Johann.

So let me know if you find out more info on this branch. Iíll keep you on my list and let you know if I happen to run across anything else on your branch.

Iím hoping to do a One Name Study on Dom and all of its variations. As I mentioned earlier, when I was young, I thought I had a rare name. But I have found out that my GGGG-grandfather had seven children (five of them boys) and my GGG-grandfather had seven children (only three of them were boys, but those three boys had THIRTY-SIX children Ė 11, 11 & 14) so I have a lot of relatives that I havenít found yet.

Good luck,

Bobbi
