Hi:

The correct pronunciation for Domingue is doe-mang ... whether in Louisiana, Canada or France. I live in New Orleans and Paris and people in France correctly pronounce my name. Any other pronounciation is incorrect. There are three spelling versions of the name in Louisiana: Domingue (most common), Domangue and Domingues. All are derived from the Spanish name: Dominguez and before that Domingo. I am interested in any information which you might have on anyone with the name Domingue in the New England states as well as in Canada. Most of the Louisianans named Domingue are descendants of Manuel Dominguez (Canary Islands) ... Spanish migration to Louisiana in the late 1700's. There was an Ostiguy, dit ... Domingue from St. Jean de Luz, Basque region of France who went to Canada in either the 1700's or 1800's (not sure of date) and I have always suspected that Domingue in Canada may be descended from this line (however, no definitive evidence).

Thanks.

Gerald J. Domingue
